Water is a precious resource!

Water has two qualities that make it a precious natural resource.First, water is absolutely necessary for life.Human beings,animals and plants cannot survive without water.

Your body is about 65 per cent water. You can live without food for thirty days or even for a few days. When the water content in your body drops just by 1 per cent, you feel thirsty. If it drops by 10 percent, there is a danger of death. water has two unique qualities: It is essential for life and it cannot normally be replaced by another resource.

We have many needs for water!

Human beings need water for personal use, agriculture and industries. At home, water is necessary for drinking, cooking food, washing, cleaning, toilet use, and gardening.

Nature  gives us fresh water every year!

Water cycle- The water cycle gives us two great benefits.First, we get this supply of water every year.Second, as the water evaporates from the ocean and falls on land, it loses its salt content and thus becomes potable.

     

Theses water sources also provide a habitat for many animals and plants.In addition, they provide hydropower , transportation, recreation and employment.

Rainwater harvesting

Conserving rainwater through recharging groundwater, or collecting and storing it for future use.

A way in which rainwater can be harvested.A way to show down the flow of water on land though bunds and check dams.The longer he water remains on land, the more it percolates into the ground. This way it recharge the aquifers and wells. Then the water is still available during the non-monsoon months. This method is best suited for villages.

Water scarcity is mainly due to human activities like deforestation, heavy extraction of groundwater, pollution and mining of sand from river beds.
